About the data

DayOneLead ingests new business-registration filings directly from state registries on a daily basis. Each filing is classified by industry and enriched with verified business information. The aggregate counts, percentages, and trends published here are derived from that dataset. Florida is the most comprehensively covered state. Newer states are still being backfilled, so their historical counts are partial and will continue to rise as coverage deepens.

Methodology

  • Source. Public business-registration filings from official state registries (for example, the Florida Sunbiz registry), collected daily on the day of filing.
  • Classification. Each filing is assigned an industry category by a large language model reading the public filing fields. Categories are estimates derived from filing text, not self-reported designations.
  • Refresh. New filings are ingested daily. The dashboards are recomputed hourly from aggregate views, so figures are current to within roughly an hour of the underlying data.
  • Coverage. Counts reflect the filings we have collected for each state, not an official state total. Where a state is mid-backfill, its historical totals are a lower bound and grow over time.
  • What we never publish. Individual owner contact information is never included in any public dataset, chart, or download. Everything here is aggregate.
