How DayOneLead works

A guide to every part of the product: what each filter means and how the tools fit together. Kept high level so you can get to work fast.

Overview

DayOneLead finds newly registered businesses in your states every day, verifies their contact info, and helps you reach them.

There are two ways to find leads. Today's Leads is the fresh daily feed. All Leads is the full searchable database. Once you have leads, you work them in the CRM, reach them with Email Outreach, or take them with you using Export.

Verified vs Unverified

This is the most important distinction in the product. It appears on both lead views as Verified and Unverified, and both default to Verified only.

Verified
We found the business online and confirmed it. It has a real website and contact info (a phone, an email, or both). These are the leads you can call or email. Internally these are our highest confidence tiers.
Unverified
The business filing is real, but we could not find a website or contact for it. These are often brand new, or holding and shell entities. They appear for completeness, but there is no contact info to work with.

Today's Leads

Your daily feed of brand new businesses, freshest first. It refreshes every morning as new filings are found and verified.

Anything you add to your CRM drops off this feed automatically, so you are always looking at what is new.

A date range across the top sets the window: Today, Last 3 days, This week, or Last 30 days, by when we processed the lead. Today also includes yesterday, since the daily run lands mid morning. Everything else uses the standard filter set below.

All Leads

The full, searchable database of every business in your states, not just today's. Use it to build targeted lists, like Miami restaurants with outdated websites. It has all the same filters as Today's Leads. What is different here:

No date limit
Everything, all the way back, not just recently processed leads.
Search
Free text across business name, owner, city, and category.
City and County
Narrow to specific places within your states.
Match count
The number at the top shows exactly how many leads match your current filters.

CRM

Your shared pipeline for the leads you are actively working. Everyone on your team sees the same leads, statuses, and notes in real time. A lead moves through these statuses:

NewWorkingFollowupWonorLost
Adding a lead to your CRM hides it from Today's Leads and All Leads, so you never double contact it. Remove it and it comes back.
Adding a lead
Click + CRM on any lead row, or Add to CRM in the detail panel.
Statuses
Move a lead along as you work it. Changing the status records when it was last contacted.
Notes and follow ups
Leave notes (shared with your team) and set a follow up date to get a due or overdue reminder on the lead.

Your first campaign

When you sign up, DayOneLead builds your first cold email campaign for you. Here is exactly what happens, step by step.

1. You describe your business
One or two sentences on what you sell and who you sell it to. Scout drafts the target categories from your description; you can add or remove any of them before continuing.
2. We build your lead list
We pull newly registered businesses that match your categories (minus anything you excluded), keep only leads with an email address, and drop addresses already known to be undeliverable. That list becomes your campaign's lead cart.
3. We write your sequence
A three step email sequence written from your description: short, plain emails with personalization tags like {{first_name}} and {{business_name}} that fill in per lead. Follow ups go only to people who have not replied.
4. You review everything
Before anything sends you see the full campaign: browse the leads, edit any subject or body, change wait days, rename it. Nothing sends until you hit launch.
5. Connect a mailbox
Connect the Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP account you want to send from. If the mailbox is new to cold email, we recommend a 7 day warmup first: you still launch now, sends hold for a week while warmup builds reputation, then start automatically.
6. Launch
Sends drip out inside your send window (default 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern, up to 30 per mailbox per day) so volume looks human. A reply pauses that lead's sequence automatically, and you watch opens and replies live on the campaign page.

After launch, new matching businesses keep arriving every morning in Today's Leads and your AI picks. Add them to your cart any time to keep the campaign fed.

Email Outreach

Run cold email campaigns from inside DayOneLead. Connect your mailbox, write a short sequence, and it sends on a schedule. A reply automatically stops the rest of the sequence, so you never email someone who already wrote back.

Mailbox
Connect a Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP account to send from. Use a separate outreach domain, not your main business domain.
Warmup
Optional. Builds your mailbox reputation in the background so more of your email lands in the inbox instead of spam.
Lead carts
The list of leads a campaign sends to. Build one from your database or upload a CSV. Every lead in a cart needs an email.
Campaigns
Write a one to three step sequence with personalization tags like {{first_name}} and {{business_name}}, set the schedule and a per mailbox daily limit, then launch and watch opens, replies, and bounces.
Inbox and Compose
Read and reply to responses in one place, and send one off emails.
Tracking
See who clicked your links and visited your site, by adding a small snippet to your website.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link and your mailing address, as required by law. Anyone who unsubscribes is suppressed and never emailed again. You are responsible for complying with CAN-SPAM and other applicable email laws. Campaigns are included on every plan, trial included.

Export and lead carts

Collect leads into a cart, then send them to a campaign or download them as a spreadsheet.

Lead cart
A saved list of leads, for an email campaign or a CSV export. Leads need an email to be added.
CSV export
Download your filtered leads as a spreadsheet: business name, owner, phone, email, website, category, location, size estimates, and more.
Limits
Up to 200 leads per day per account (resets at midnight UTC). Leads without an email are not exported.
