105,187 new businesses were filed with the state registries of Florida, New York, California, Colorado, Texas, and Connecticut in August 2026, -5.2% from July. 847,773 have filed across the six states so far in 2026. Every number below comes from the public filing record, counted daily.

August filings with "AI" in the business name (460 companies), roughly double the 2.25 per 1,000 rate of January to May 2025. California leads at 13.65 per 1,000.

Of July filings with a detectable website, the share whose domain was registered two or more years before the filing. 43.8% were five or more years older. Many "new" businesses are existing operations formalizing.

City is the principal address on the filing. Registered-agent and filing-service addresses inflate a few cities, Albany and St. Petersburg among them; treat those rows as filing hubs rather than operating locations.
Website and domain findings, July 2026 cohort
We check every filing for a public website and, where one exists, the domain's registration date. July is reported here so each filing had at least 30 days to be matched.

Method
- A filing is any new entity registration published by the state registry (Florida Division of Corporations, New York Department of State, California Secretary of State, Colorado Secretary of State, Texas Comptroller sales-tax permits and Secretary of State filings, Connecticut Secretary of the State), counted by official filing date.
- Counts include every entity type and are not adjusted for payroll or EIN status, so they run higher than U.S. Census Business Formation Statistics, which count applications.
- "AI-named" means the registered name contains the standalone token AI or A.I. Names like "Aid" or "Air" are excluded.
- Website detection matches a filing to a public site on name, location, and identity checks. A filing with no detectable website may still have one we could not confirm.
- Coverage starts January 2024 for Florida and New York and January 2025 for the other four states; earlier months in Florida, Texas, and California are still being backfilled.
